How to get there
- Seasonal shuttle from St. Andrews State Park — round-trip ferry, weather and season permitting. Tickets are sold inside the park; the schedule changes each season — confirm on the day.
- Private boat / pontoon rental — popular for groups. Several Grand Lagoon outfitters rent pontoons.
- Guided dolphin / snorkel tours — most Panama City Beach tour boats include a Shell Island stop.
What to bring
There is nothing on Shell Island — no concessions, no restrooms, no shade structures. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, a beach umbrella or pop-up shade, and a trash bag (pack out what you pack in).
Tips from us
- The bay side is calmer; the Gulf side is bigger surf.
- Dolphins are common in the channel between the island and St. Andrews — keep an eye on the water.
- Check the surf and weather forecast before you commit — there's no way back early if conditions change unexpectedly.
